Waarschip builds high-tech SUP Board

Do you remember the Swedish adventurer who was on his way from the north of Norway on his Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Board and arrived at the beach of Delfzijl? Sleeping on the beach just in front of the Eemshotel. Jonas Böhlmark had been on the road along the North Sea coast for more than a year.

After arrival, Jonas was warmly welcomed by the owners of the Eemshotel and the volunteers of the local Stichting Strandhelling Delfzijl, including board member and sailing architect Willem Jan Landman. The owners of the Eemshotel offered Jonas a sleep leak, but he refused: “I’ve been sleeping outside all year and I will continue to do so.”
After his pit stop in Delfzijl, Jonas continued his journey and until recently reached the small French seaside resort of Carcans Plage, on the west coast near Bordeaux. However, he was stranded in Carcans Plage due to the breaking of his SUP Board. Willem Jan came to his aid and set up a collaboration with a shipyard in Farmsum. After 11 months, Jonas returns to Delfzijl.

“Jona’s goal during this journey is to share his knowledge and experience after he was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder at the age of 19. Since his departure, he has been talking about it in hundreds of newspapers and by giving lectures along the way. With the message of how important it is for him to be physically active, not to drink alcohol and to be an example for many others.”

In Farmsum, Jonas has his new SUP board made by the shipyard ‘Waarschip’. The search for a builder of the SUP board was enthusiastically received by the owner Roelof Niezen. “I used to build surfboards for my daughter before”.
